Biography

Dr. Khorasani is the Chief of the Division of Dermatologic and Cosmetic Surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and a triple board certified, fellowship-trained skin cancer and cosmetic surgeon. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology (Procedural Dermatology), American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, and American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery.

He is a diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology (Procedural Dermatology) and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (Dermatologic Cosmetic Surgery).

Dr. Khorasani has specialized training in advanced skin cancer screening and management (Melanoma, Basal & Squamous Cell Carcinomas). He is an expert in Mohs micrographic surgery and post Mohs reconstructive surgery. As one of the co-founders of the Tisch Cancer Institute's Melanoma and Skin Cancer Center, Dr. Khorasani is actively involved with clinical trials and the advancement of skin cancer therapy.

Dr. Khorasani is also a fellowship-trained cosmetic surgeon that performs cosmetic procedures including neuromodulators, injectable fillers, scar revision, blepharoplasty (eye lift surgery), face lift, thread lift and 3-dimensional liposuction. He is an expert laser surgeon and uses the safest and most precise lasers to address skin lesions, ageing, wrinkles, scarring, pigmentation, tattoos and redness.

He is deeply involved in minimal scar wound repair research and has done extensive research in this area. He is currently conducting two clinical trials addressing improved scarring after surgery.

As the co-director of the Mohs/Procedural Dermatology fellowship and the Director of Dermatologic Surgery Education at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Khorasani is actively involved in teaching surgical and cosmetic procedures to residents and fellows from all over the world.

Dr. Khorasani is the Chair of the Mount Sinai Spring Symposium "Advances in Facial Reconstruction & Cosmetic Surgery," a national, multi-specialty reconstructive and cosmetic cadaver workshop.

Dr.Khorasani graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a degree in Physiological Sciences and graduated in the top 5% of his medical school with highest distinction from the University of Southern California. Following medical school, Dr. Khorasani completed his internship in General Surgery at the USC-LA County Hospital, gaining extensive exposure to trauma and reconstructive surgery. He then completed a research fellowship in Plastic Surgery at the University of Southern California School of Medicine where he studied minimal scar wound repair.

Dr. Khorasani served as chief resident and completed his dermatology residency at NYMC Metropolitan Hospital and Montefiore North in New York City. After his residency, Dr. Khorasani completed a fellowship in Procedural Dermatology and Mohs micrographic surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center where he had additional training in skin cancer surgery, reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Khorasani is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology and the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

Research

Minimal Scar Wound Repair

Intensely interested in minimal scar wound repair, he has done extensive research in this area. In particular, he has focused on the molecular agents involved in fetal scarless wound healing including TGF family of molecules and Fibromodulin. Dr. Khorasani has presented his work at multiple national meetings.

Scar analysis of post Mohs micrographic surgery wounds treated with ablative C02 resurfacing

Using fractal analysis and lacunarity to objectively analyze wounds treated with ablative fractional CO2 laser post surgery.
