Today, to get rid of the external symptoms of dermatitis, you can use hormonal and non-hormonal ointments and special creams. Most experts disagree about the benefits of these drugs. According to some, non-hormonal drugs are the most effective, while others believe it is better to use hormone therapy, which will have a positive effect on the patient.
Hormonal ointments in dermatology
The list of hormonal drugs is extensive and includes a large number. Usually, the following drugs are prescribed to treat dermatitis:
- Flucinar. This product comes in the form of a gel and ointment. The drug is prescribed for the diagnosis of seborrheic and atopic dermatitis. In addition, it is effective in the treatment of erythema and psoriasis in adult patients. The use of the drug is contraindicated in children under two years of age . The active ingredient is fluocinalone acetonide. According to patient reviews, this drug has minimal side effects.
- Advantan. Available in the form of an ointment, cream, emulsion. It is prescribed to relieve symptoms of atopic, allergic, and contact dermatitis. - dermatitis – seborrheic, atopic and contact.

- Celestoderm. Ointment from the group of corticosteroids, which treats seborrheic, contact, radiation, atopic and other types of dermatitis. This remedy relieves itching, helps to moisturize the skin surface. A thin layer of Celestoderm is applied to the affected skin. It is used to treat children from 6 months, since the child’s body is too susceptible to hormonal drugs. According to patients, this drug is highly effective, while they note that only regular use helps to obtain a lasting effect.
- Prednisone. Forms of release of these drugs are various – tablet form, injections and ointments. A drug of weak activity with side signs. It is applicable for allergic diseases with praises of non-microbial etiology.

- Psoriasis, eczema, erythroderma;

- Elokom. Available in ointments, lotions and creams. It is a synthetic hormonal agent that effectively and quickly relieves itching. Reducing fluid exudate (in serous fluid, blood and pus). If the wound is wet, the use of Elokom is contraindicated. If its application is local, then the absorption of blood does not occur, which prevents a negative effect on the weakened body of the patient.
- Lorinden. A drug that quickly relieves itching, kills germs, relieves inflammation and relieves allergies. This remedy is intended for the treatment of dermatophytes, mycoses and bacterial infections.
- Ftorocort. A medicinal product produced in the form of an ointment is prescribed for:

According to the comparative characteristics, non-hormonal drugs, in contrast to hormonal ones, give a positive result after a longer time. Moreover, they are side effects, not counting the individual sensitivity of the patient to the components of the drug.
Among the most common are the following:
- Eplan. Available in cream form. It is used in the treatment of eczematous dermatitis, eczema of microbial etiology, insect stings, psoriasis, herpes and burns. This remedy effectively relieves swelling and scabies, and can also have a preventive effect on chemical irritation.
- Exoderil. There are tubes of ointment or cream in pharmacies. This remedy is effective against the fungus and often the doctor ascribes it if the cause of the skin inflammation has not been found out. Exoderil is prescribed for cutaneous candidiasis of all forms, pityriasis versicolor, and inflammatory dermatomycosis.
- Gistan-N. Release form – ointment, cream. This drug is used externally and is a biologically active additive, which is prescribed for dermatitis of atopic and allergic origin. In addition, this drug relieves itching well, even after an insect bite. But do not confuse this non-hormonal drug with the analogous Gistan-N with hormones. Therefore, before starting to use it, you must carefully read the composition of the drug.
- Bepanten. This product is available in the form of a cream, lotion, ointment. It is prescribed for various types of dermatitis to moisturize the skin, get rid of itching and erythema. Very often, mothers use this drug for the prevention of diaper rash in babies, since it creates a protective layer on the skin and promotes rapid skin regeneration.
- Radevit. The drug is produced in the form of an ointment and cream. It is prescribed for the treatment of contact, atopic and allergic dermatitis in order to relieve negative symptoms on the skin. Radevit relieves itching, inflammation and softens the skin of the face and hands, especially in children. Also promotes skin regeneration.
- Skin cap. The drug is available in the form of shampoo, cream, gel, aerosol. Skin-cap represents a whole series of antimicrobial, antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory agents. This drug has been found to be the most effective and non-hazardous for patients. It is prescribed for the treatment of such forms of dermatitis as atopic, seborrheic and diaper. In addition, creams and ointments are used to treat eczema, seborrhea, psoriasis and excessive dryness of the skin.
