Scientists still cannot give an exact explanation of why some people are predisposed to psoriasis, while others are never affected by this problem. And although the main causes of psoriasis have been established, modern medicine does not have the means for a complete cure for this disease. What can be the most common factor in the onset of psoriasis? Let’s consider everything in order.

Scientists have proven a long time ago that a genetic predisposition to psoriasis is one of the main causes of its occurrence. But more recently it became known that a person has not one, but several genes at once that are responsible for this predisposition.

In the course of a study of the family history of patients with psoriasis, it was possible to establish that 50% of all patients must have relatives who also suffered from this disease. Moreover, if one of the identical twins is sick with psoriasis, then the second one also has this disease. True, this fact applies only to 70% of twin couples, therefore, the causes of psoriasis , in this case, are not limited only to a hereditary factor.

External factors

If a person has a genetic predisposition to psoriasis, the factor that triggered its occurrence is often the influence of the environment. For example, the change of season, mechanical or chemical effects on the skin, unfavorable ecology, strong nervous shocks, emotional stress, infectious and viral diseases, taking certain medications can cause psoriasis.

In children, the appearance of psoriasis, as well as periods of exacerbation of the disease, can be provoked by a streptococcal infection. Taking medications such as quinolines, beta-blockers, or lithium are also common causes of psoriasis. In addition, the cancellation of glucocarticoids can lead to an exacerbation of the disease.

Often, foci of skin lesions with psoriasis appear in places of long non-healing wounds or due to recent injuries.

Strange as it may sound, but it is stress that becomes one of the most common causes of psoriasis or recurrence of the disease. Moreover, the reason for such changes can be a variety of emotionally difficult situations, from childhood fright and the beginning of school, to severe nervous tension or mental tragedy.

Failures in the nervous system

Since it is the nervous system that is responsible for the production of special substances, mediators, which largely affect the intensity of metabolic processes in the skin, any failures in its work immediately affect the state of the epidermis. This is confirmed by the fact that psoriasis often occurs as a result of stress, and by the fact that psoriatic plaques almost always appear on symmetrical areas of the body.

That is why the complex of therapeutic measures for psoriasis necessarily includes systemic therapy of disorders of the nervous system in combination with drug, local and general therapy.

Finally, the causes of psoriasis may lie in smoking or excessive addiction to alcohol, as well as some foods, or rather, their improper combination and use. This is explained by the fact that the destructive effect on the body of tobacco and alcoholic beverages, improperly compiled food intake, poor-quality products, as well as a lack of vitamins and microelements in it, cause disruption of metabolic processes, first in the digestive system, and then in other organs and systems of the body. person. All this, in the end, leads to the development of many diseases, including chronic psoriasis.
